me

Hi, I'm Vincent Marceau

I live in Québec, Canada and currently work as a software engineer at Auth0 (Okta)

About me

I followed a slightly unusual professional trajectory, that brought me from academic research in computational physics to software engineering, a field I am very passionate about.

I currently work at Auth0 (part of Okta) as a software engineer, where I am building at the intersection of large-scale distributed systems, security, identity and access management.

Before, I worked for a few years as a machine learning and software engineer at XpertSea, a dynamic startup company aiming to improve the world's aquaculture practices through the use of technology. This was an incredible experience and I got the opportunity to contribute and learn on many fronts. Prior to that, I started my journey in the industry at ABB, where I spent some years as a signal processing engineer.

Academically, I am trained as a computational physicist. During my MSc and PhD studies, I did research on complex network epidemiology and high intensity laser-matter interaction.

On a personal level, I am the happy father of two kids. During my free time, I love to run, especially in the mountains. Running helps me to maintain a good balance and mental health. I have participated in a few ultramarathons, some of them up to 100 miles.

If I ever find the time (and motivation), I would love to add a blog section to this website to share thoughts about various topics I'm interested about.

You can find my complete resume on LinkedIn.

Work

Projects

At XpertSea, I had the chance to work on most aspects of the technology, from the computer vision and deep learning models to the backend platform, the cloud infrastructure, and the mobile monitoring application.

At ABB, I worked principally on lidar and radar level sensors, for which I was responsible for developing the signal processing software. I also worked on the modelling and signal processing of FTIR (Fourier Transform interferometers) instruments for space and defense contracts.

Talks

I gave a talk about OCR and text recognition with CRNN models at Cabane.io 2019. The recording is available on Youtube (first 15 mins, in French only). The screen was unfortunately outside the camera field of view, but you can find the slides here.

I had the opportunity to give a few other talks during my time at XpertSea and my academic research years, but unfortunately none of them were recorded. Some of the material is available in conference proceedings.

Papers

I published a few scientific papers during my MSc and PhD research years. You can find the full list on my Google Scholar page.

Patents

During my time at XpertSea and ABB, I worked on technologies that made the object of patent applications. You can find more details on Google Patents.
